business signage

Advertising is the best way to get traffic to your business. If you don’t advertise, how will anyone know you exist? Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to advertise for your business, including digital ads, direct mail ads, newspaper ads, and outdoor signage.

When talking about outdoor advertising, we’re referring to billboards. Although having a sign directly outside of your business is helpful, it won’t create new traffic unless people are driving right past your building. While some people might assume billboards are outdated, they actually still work.

Billboards Reach a Wide Audience

Billboards have an extremely high viewer rate. Forbes reported on a study conducted by The Arbitron National In-Car Study in 2009. The study looked at the way billboards impact marketing and consumerism. The first thing the study showed is that the average driver spends more than 20 hours per week in the car, traveling about 200 miles.

This gives people an awfully large amount of time to spot a billboard. Drivers still pay attention to billboard ads. In fact, approximately 71% of people riding in the car look at messages on roadside billboards, and that includes both traditional and digital signs. If you’re a business owner, your best bet for people seeing your ads is placing them on a billboard.

They’re Cost-Effective

According to Matrix Media, billboards are among the cheapest form of advertising. They state that outdoor advertising cost 80% less than television and newspaper ads, and 50% less than radio advertisements. If you go with a digital version, LED signs are even cheaper because of how cost-effective LED lights are. Considering that more people will probably see it and it is cheaper than other forms of advertising, billboards seem pretty appealing forms of business signage.

They Inspire Action

Unlike other marquee signs, billboards actually have a very firm call to action. People often make their shopping decisions based on a billboard they see while driving. We’ve all been driving down the highway, seen a billboard for a restaurant, and gotten off at the exit to eat at said restaurant because it sounded good. That is living proof that billboard advertising works.

If you are trying to decide what type of business signage is right for you, consider billboard advertising. It is cost effective, reaches a huge audience, and it actually works.
